WASTE PROBLEMS IN PASSI CITY

During a series of key informants’ interviews conducted by the GTZ-AHT Solid Waste Management for Local Government Units, perceptions of the informants on waste problems in Passi City are revealed. The main issues and concerns involve the following:

  1. Waste segregation is not consistently being implemented in the City.
  2. The waste collection system is not efficient and waste collection equipment and facilities are inadequate to serve the needs of the households, commercial centers, and institutions in the city.
  3. The implementation of local ordinances and regulations on waste management is not pursued regularly.
  4. Wastes are disposed at an open dump site. However, the City government has initiated steps to construct a sanitary landfill at an identified site in barangay Aglalana.
  5. Littering in public places is prevalent.
  6. Majority of the residents of Passi City do not practice appropriate waste habits. There is a need to implement an environmental education and information component integrated with the solid waste management program of the city.
