With the support of the GTZ-AHT Solid Waste Management for LGUs, personnel from Buenavista Local Government Unit have received training on Ecological Solid Waste Management and its components. In November 2005, a core group involved in the implementation of the municipality’s solid waste management program was trained on composting technologies and methods at the Buro-buro Vermicompost Farm in Talisay, Negros Occidental. The Farm developed by the couple Bachoy and Pamela Henares, preached the virtues of vermicomposting with a kind of missionary zeal. The training has helped improve the capacity of LGU personnel in the conduct of seminars and orientations on Ecological Solid Waste Management and composting techniques. A group of farmers from barangay San Nicolas started to develop compost heaps or build vermicompost boxes in their farms. Public market vendors who renew their business permits annually are required to participate in orientations on solid waste management at the Dunang Manggad Center.
